having been based in the Primary school since it opened; the Troop feels very much a part of La Chat. What do the Scouts like about Troop 130?
- I like Scouts because you make lots of friends, you learn and do interesting things such as: camping in the forest, in snow, orienteering, search & rescue exercises, etc…” Luke.
- What I liked about going camping was getting to pitch tents and archery and learning survival skills. We make fires cook meals with our patrtol.we learnt about the (GPS) Global positioning system. We learnt about nature leaving no trace and doing a lot of fun stuff and getting badges. In boy scouts you have to be prepared for all types of weather and eventualities. It is fun to be a Boy Scout. Wabo
- At camp we learnt different ways of making fires, so the next morning I tried by myself: after 6 attempts I got a good fire going and cooked bacon, sausages and eggs for the 6 scouts in my patrol. I have now made a Tinder Box so I will "Be Prepared" for the next time. Scouting is fun as we are learning so much that will help us in an emergency. Calum
- We hike on Glaciers, climb rock faces, go rafting ,canoe, make rope bridges, camp in the rain and snow, learn survival and lifesaving, first aid and communications. Whilst having a good time we learn to be a good citizen, but best of all we are learning to work with other people and help each other. Alex
- There is always a challenge to be met and a sense of achievement after, be it the knowledge you have learnt a new skill or passed one already learnt to a new scout. Andrew
