Klondike 2010

The Troop have submitted a Patrol of 9 boys for this years Klondike Derby. We will be heading off to Kandersteg on Friday evening, and will post pictures and feedback from the event on Saturday evening. We’ve already built 2 new sledges and done some refresher courses on shelter building and first aid. As these are 2 of the stations we will have to do on Saturday.

October Campout

Dear Scouts & Parents,

We are camping this weekend and the Senior Scouts have planned some fun packed adventures where you will learn some great skills.

We will meet at 9am on Saturday at La Chat, and collection will be at midday on Sunday from the campsite. Parents you need to sign the permission slip which will be there on Saturday. Transport will be organised at La Chat .

We will be camping under trees in La Rippe (find driving directions under genevascouts.com/troop130...). You can also find instructions on clothes/packing (pack layers for hot/cold/wet/windy and make sure you have hiking boots.) Also remember your Scout book.

Scouts, your patrol leaders will contact you and they will arrange food and anything else for your patrol?s camp.

Dads, normally we seek to have 3 adults on a campout, this weekend however you are invited to camp with us, lend a hand and learn the Troop 130 way of doing things. Let me know if you are coming.

Mike, can you please forward this email to any new parents not in the Troopmaster email lists.

See you on Saturday,
Martin

Klondike derby

If you are interested in doing the Klondike Derby from the 15th – 17th January then please contact xxx.

There have been American Scouts overseas since almost the beginning of Scouting. The Transatlantic Council of the Boy Scouts of America serves to make the US Scouting program available in west-and-central Europe, the Near East and North Africa for children and leaders living on American military bases, international schools, U.S. embassies and in businesses. Just as a rough idea, the Transatlantic Council exist in 23 countries on three continents, and it is the LARGEST of the councils of the Boy Scouts of America!

The meetings and activities of the Transatlantic Council units are basically the same as those in the United States and, for many years now, KISC has the privilege to welcome their annual Klondike Derby: a winter event for Scouts Patrols established on 1949, based on the heritage of the Gold Rush along the Klondike river, between Canada and Alaska, in the late 19th century.

More than 270 Boy Scouts came to KISC last weekend from countries such as Germany, England or The Netherlands to participate on this exciting competition and cross our snow-covered campsite, carrying their gear on a dog sled. On the way, several stations named after classic Alaskan towns were waiting for them with challenges on scoutcraft skills and leadership abilities, where they can earn points towards a total score. But of course, there was also time for a nice lunch hosted at the Tower!

The awards ceremony took place that saturday evening, during a campfire, and Sunday was the chance for all these units to have some relaxing fun around Kandersteg doing activities such as sledding, ski or ice skating.
