Troop 130 is getting ready to go to Kondersteg this year for the annual Klondike Derby! The Klondike Derby is an annual winter event which is put on by the Transatlantic Council (TAC). The  Klondike derby consists of 10 stations where patrols/units must test their Scoutcraft skills and their leadership abilities, earning points towards a total score.

****Attached is the Klondike Derby Info Pack, a document which explains in depth the program, as well as the paper work needed.****

Where: This January's Klondike Derby being held in Kandersteg, Switzerland. (2 hour drive away).

When: We will leave in the after noon after school the 13th (Friday) Jan. 2012. and return in the afternoon on the (Sunday), 15 Jan. 2012.

Who: We are trying to get the whole troop involved this year, so please everyone is welcome.

We have been attending this Council wide event for many years now, and every year it is a blast for the Scouts. They will be staying at the Kandersteg International Scout Center (KISC) in the Swiss Alps for two nights. The Scouts will work in Patrols and compete in Scouting Skills events for a day of fun, and the chance to meet up with over 250 other Scouts from our Council, TAC. We will need the boys to register before or by the next Scout meeting so I can register the Troop before the holidays. The fee will be 260.- to cover registration (covers stay in the Scout Center, participation in events, and meals) , travel, and a Sunday sledging event. Due to capacity issues only your Scout and two adults will be able to stay at the Scout Lodge ( this can change if we have more Scouts). But any parents wanting to attend can come, but will have to find accommodation in the village of Kandersteg. We had several parents do this last year, and found it to be an excellent experience. The weekend ends at KISC with a large camp fire and show for the participants. The Staff at KISC put on a great camp, and the TAC Program is always a must to be a part of.

As for clothing to take, please make sure the boys pack warm clothing made for winter. Not too many extras, but what will be needed. We will be sending out a packing list in the near future.

Please make sure to fill out completely the new medical forms.

FYI: Only have to fill out parts A and B. This event will not be over 72 hours for the Troop.

Parts A and B  are to be completed at least annually by participants in all Scouting events. This health history, parental/guardian informed consent and hold harmless/release agreement, and talent release statement is to be completed by the participant and parents/guardians.

Part C  is the physical exam that is required for participants in any event that exceeds 72 consecutive hours, for all high-adventure base participants, or when the nature of the activity is strenuous and demanding. Service projects or work weekends may fit this description. Part C is to be completed and signed by a certified and licensed heath-care provider—physician (MD or DO), nurse practitioner, or physician assistant. It is important to note that the height/weight limits must be strictly adhered to when the event will take the unit more than 30 minutes away from an emergency vehicle, accessible roadway, or when the program requires it, such as backpacking trips, high-adventure activities, and conservation projects in remote areas. See the FAQs for when this does not apply.

Part D  is required to be reviewed by all participants of a high-adventure program at one of the national high-adventure bases and shared with the examining health-care provider before completing Part C.
