Parents of young boys face a lot of choices in after-school activities. Boys want to have fun, while parents want them to learn positive values and skills that will last a lifetime. If  your boy is between 6 and 18, Scouting may be exactly what you are both looking for.  In Geneva there are two Cub Scout Packs for boys aged 6 -11 and three Boy Scout Troops for boys aged 11-18 these packs/troops serve the canton, Vaud and neighbouring France area. The Cub Scouts are organized into Dens of between 4 and 8 boys, the location and meeting times for each den are determined by the parent who has volunteered to run the Den. The Dens start with the Tigers and work through Wolves, Bears, Webelos 1 and Webelos 2. At the end of Webelos 2 the boys can then progress onto the boy scouts. The boys work in the Dens on fun and informative activities and can gain, belt loops, beads, badges, arrows and ultimately the arrow of light. Dens and the pack organise, amongst other things, the blue and gold banquet, pinewood derby, get involved in raising funds for charity and go camping. Most Dens are formed at the beginning of the school year and providing there is space can be joined at any time. Boy Scouts, is essentially boy-led, with the Scoutmaster and his assistants always involved. The Troop is divided into Patrols each with 5-8 scouts of mixed ages and ability. The Patrols are lead by an older more experienced scout but all ages work together. The older more experienced scouts help the less experienced ones advance through the different ranks. They all go camping take part in numerous activities from Glacier hiking to swimming and earn merit badges. Parents are also an important part of the scouts and are needed to help with events, camping and as merit badges counselors. New boys are always welcome, and integration is easy at any point during the year.
