Summer Campout – event report

Many thanks to Robert for organising this years summer campout. Despite the threat of rain, this years campout remained dry and a great success for everyone who attended. After the opening Flag ceremony the boys had a lot of fun playing a variety of different games such as ultimate Frisbee, football, rounders, french cricket and tug of war. Later that evening they all disappeared into the woods in a scene reminiscent of lord of the flies.

The evening barbeque was very tasty and despite the sun dispapearing below the tree line most of us managed to chase the sunlight down the field till we gave up and huddled round the fire.

The touch rugby game proved a very competitive affair and the younger members of the team proved that  style, grace, speed and fine handling can be found in the new generation. I’m sure most of the ‘older’ competitors who’s finer days have long gone are still suffering a few aches and pains from the evenings sport.

Sunday despite starting a little cloudy ended up a  glorious sunny day, and the hike proved a delightful walk through the woods discovering the pleasures of wild strawberrys and listening to the cuckoo in the distance. The climbing frame with rotating bars will be remembered by most of the children as proving to be a very challenging, if not painful, obstacle.
