Troop 130 Vision and Purpose

The creation of the Vision and Purpose was a scout-led initiative, where the key process steps were the following:

Building awareness in the Troop for the need of a Vision and a Purpose

Scouts and supervising adults having discussions and then drafting a statement of Vision and Purpose.

Inviting each scout and adult in the Troop to pursue the Purpose and Vision, and let it come true for Troop 130.

Vision

We, Troop 130 Geneva, strive to achieve the goal that Baden-Powell first set for scouts in the early 1900s when he was initiating the scouting movement:

“Prepare you young people for the adventurous life that lays ahead”

Through scouting, we want to develop the fundamental values of outdoor intimacy and social craftsmanship. We aim to acquire the valuable skills of leadership and followership. All these points will help us stand strong in the good times and in the bad times that lay ahead.

Purpose

To achieve our Vision, we rely on a Purpose to get us there. We want to build our scouting events on the following points, which together, form our Troop’s Purpose:

  • Learn how to be more reverent when surrounded by the glory of nature

  • Learn the skills needed to survive in the outdoors

  • Teach how to be aware in society

  • Understand the implications of obedience and loyalty

  • Encourage scouts to apply the Scout Oath and Scout Law in their everyday lives

Troop 130 is Scout-Led ....

The scouts decide and prepare their calendar of activities and organize themselves in smaller groups known as patrols, with the experienced scouts acting as leaders and role models for the younger scouts.

.... with Parent Support

Parents of every scout take an active role, teaching skills, or as scoutmasters or on the troop committee. Both scouts and parents benefit from our vibrant, active scouting community.
